Context and objectives

Recent developments in the applied sciences have required the use of stochastic models and tools, and the resulting interplay with Probability has been a rich source of research problems and inspiration. The relation between microscopic behavior and macroscopic laws in Physics, problems arising in Population Biology related to growth and competition, the need to model and control complex graphs such as the the web in Computer Sciences, or understanding learning through neural networks, have posed new challenges.
